Water vole (Arvicola amphibius) is a herbivorous rodent that inhabits burrows within the banks of ditches, streams, rivers, canals and other riparian habitats.
Once commonly found throughout the UK, water vole is now the fastest declining mammal species in the UK due to habitat loss and predation from North American mink (Mustella vison).
Water vole is legally protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which makes it an offence to kill, injure, or disturb water voles, or to damage or destroy their habitats.
GreenLink Ecology Ltd. is able to undertake water vole survey work, apply for development licences and implement mitigation strategies.
